what's the best homeowners insurance for people who live in florida now that state farm is leaving florida?
- homeinsurance. awardspace. us - you can try this company. I personally have their home insurance cause it is cheapest in our area
- I work for State Farm - and I am sorry for your loss, because they are a great company. There are many good insurance companies, it's the type of insurance policy that matters. Make sure they are writing you an HO - 3 or HO - B policy. You do not want an HO - A policy because it is VERY basic and in many losses you think you're covered, you will not be. Or you will only be covered for the depreciated value of your home / personal property. In TX we have the Office of Public Insurance Counsel where we can compare policies and what they cover. I am not sure what you have in FL like that, but I am sure if you contact your state's department of insurance they should be able to guide you to your state's version of this
- I have lived in Florida for 11 years and have never had any Home or Health Insurance. You need to accept the fact that their are no guarantees in life. Hurricane came and blew my shingles off my roof. Guess what? I had a huge tarp there and I covered the roof after the winds blew through. The following day, I was buying shingles and installing them on my roof. Maybe you should have kept that husband? Maybe you shouldnt have been so selfish with your independance and had some big strong sons to help out when tough times hit. This is the new America. Welcome to it
- I am sorry to hear about your losing your coverage with State Farm Florida. Despite all the hostility in the media they were a good company to be insured with. Most Floridians who were with them during the 04 / 05 hurricanes were more than satisfied with both the speed and the amount of their State Farm Florida settlements. The challenge for you going forward is to find a good company in a very dysfunctional market. By that I mean the market is very confusing to a consumer trying to figure out which companies are interested in covering your home. It's very rare for me to make a recommendation of a particular service to someone in your situation, but I want you to check out this service: homeinsurancebuyers.org When the State Farm Florida annoucement broke a few weeks ago, I saw this site mentioned in just about every newspaper across Florida. It helps you find, screen, and contact only those companies that are writing new business in your Florida county - regardless of whether that company sells directly to you or through an agent network. Using this service is the only way to make sure that you are getting a quote from each and every company writing new business in your county. But the best part is that this service gives each of these companies a buyers guide rating on a scale of 1 - 10. It's the only place I know that actually stack ranks these companies against each other. I had a great company like State Farm during Hurricane Wilma and even with a large blue chip company, it still took me multiple rounds to get most of the money I needed to rebuild. I am convinced that we are all going to need lawyers to get paid after the next Florida hurricane. In any event, you are very smart to be looking for a new company now. Anyone with State Farm who waits until they are cancelled is going to get burned. Don't drink any of the Koolaid being put out by the State of Florida that there are going to be lots of companies who want your business - and whatever you do, try to stay out of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation! Best of luck to you with your search! You should be ok. because you are working on it now
